With the »Activarium«, we want to actively engage with potential partners from the industry, start-ups, NGOs, politics and society as a whole to initiate an exploratory exchange on active materials, bio- & culture-inspired innovation as well as sustainability approaches. We want visitors to experience our demonstrators and prototypes to really grasp what MoA strives for and make our research tangible. CollActive Materials is an experimental laboratory of the Berlin Clusters of Excellence »Matters of Activity« (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) and »Science of Intelligence« (Technische Universität Berlin), funded by the Berlin University Alliance. The aim of the project is to develop speculative design as a new approach for knowledge exchange between research, society, and design, thus making joint encounters possible at eye level. As an experimental, transdisciplinary project, CollActive Materials brings material everyday practices from diverse social contexts into open conversation with approaches in research. more

In the Design Lab, all Cluster members have the possibility to try their hand on the 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC mills, and CAD workstations under the guidance of the (Workshop) Team. Here, the independent development and revision of models and prototypes from conception to execution are made tangible for the researchers. From a hammer to a programmable microchip with sensors, the Design Lab provides a fertile ground for trials and experiments while mediating between the various disciplines and projects. more

The Humboldt Lab in the Humboldt Forum presents research by the Berlin Clusters of Excellence, the Berlin University Alliance and other cutting-edge institutes and faculties at the Humboldt-Universität. It aims to become a living workshop of ideas where top-level research enters into a dialogue with the public on pressing issues of our time. The Cluster of Excellence »Matters of Activity« contributes to this discourse with a variety of exhibits, opening up diverse insights into its research projects. more

The Cluster cooperates with the Tieranatomisches Theater (Veterinary Anatomy Theater), an exhibition space and stage for experimental forms of presentation and a laboratory for curatorial practices. more
